Investigation of deepfake-generated child exploitation cases. I completed a case study that required me to thoroughly study police cases of minors who were victims of deepfakes. Why this interview: Senator Boscola was the prime sponsor of Senate Bill 1083, which sought to bring AI-generated images and video within Pennsylvania's child sexual abuse statute. Its provisions were folded into SB 1213 with Senators Pennycuick and Dillon, which passed both chambers unanimously and became Act 124 of 2024.
What she told me: Law enforcement's hands were tied because the statute was silent on deepfakes; the bill drew no opposition in either form; the language was drafted with State Police, the Attorney General, and the PA District Attorneys Association to be as future-proof as possible; and district attorneys are already charging under it, including a Lehigh County case. Her metric for success is simple: how many people are charged and convicted.
